This oldie but goodie was first written & sung by Merle Travis about a coal miner, based on life in the mines of Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.
Travis first recorded the song in 1946. It was released in July, 1947 by Capitol Records on Travis's album, "Folk Songs of the Hills," and went on to became a gold record. It later was covered by many other artists, including Tennessee Ernie Ford.
I hope you enjoy my take at this classic folk song! ☮️❤️
