We’re back on board! After months of road-tripping through New Zealand in our motorhome, we’ve left the bus behind and flown back to Nouméa, New Caledonia, to reunite with our sailboat Te Tāiko. But tropical waters don’t rest—and she’s grown a serious underwater jungle!
In this video, we take you through the full haulout process: lifting Te Tāiko out of the water, inspecting the heavy growth on her hull, and getting to work cleaning, prepping, and applying fresh antifoul. It’s messy, physical, and 100% part of the real liveaboard sailing lifestyle.
Whether you’re passionate about sailing, dreaming of boat life, or love watching travel stories unfold, this episode dives into what it takes to maintain a cruising sailboat in the South Pacific.
⛵ In this episode:
• Returning to Nouméa after our NZ adventure
• Seeing our boat for the first time in months
• Hauling out at a Nouméa boatyard
• Dealing with serious hull growth
• Antifouling and prepping Te Taiko for the season
• The emotional shift from van life back to boat life
We’re so excited to get back to life at sea—thanks for coming along on the journey!
We hope you enjoy it!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------We’re Adam and Vicki. After years of being career focused, we decided it was time to shake things up and sought a lifestyle that would provide us with new experiences, humble us, allow us to visit remote locations, and experience new cultures. In 2021, we traded our regular suburban lifestyle for a nomadic one and moved aboard our sailboat, Te Tāiko, a Chico 40.
After three years sailing in New Zealand and preparing for Category 1 (regulations for New Zealand registered vessels planning to sail offshore), we set sail from New Zealand to Fiji on the 23 May 2024. This would be Vicki and Tāiko's first ocean passage and Adam's third. We have since sailed to Vanuatu and New Caledonia, where we will be during the cyclone season.
We fund our lifestyle by working part time. This sometimes involves returning to New Zealand to help top up the bank account. The other avenue is through our content creation where we document our journey though YouTube videos and our our social media accounts and website. We would love for you to follow our progress as we navigate a nomadic lifestyle. If our content is something that you enjoy, please consider supporting our channel. You can do so by:
