한국 전통문화 지키는 외국인들
Welcome to Issues and Insiders.
Today we share with you the thoughts of two practitioners of traditional Korean music who hope to keep these sounds resonating beyond borders.
For more I have Anna YATES-LU an Assistant Professor in the Department of Korean Music at Seoul National University.
It's good to have you with us.
I also have Gaia BRUSASCO team leader of Expats Samulnori here in the studio.
It's a pleasure.
1) Anna/Professor Yates, what paved your path to pansori?
2) And Gaia, what spurred your interest in samulnori?
3) Anna/Professor Yates, for the sake of our viewers who may not be familiar with pansori, could you tell us a bit about it including its appeal for you?
4) Likewise Gaia, do tell us a bit about samulnori and its appeal.
5) Anna/Professor Yates, were there any specific hardships that you encountered while learning pansori as a foreigner.
6) Gaia, what was your learning experience like?
7) Anna/Professor Yates, I understand that in the course of writing your dissertation, you interviewed 60 pansori performers and attended 90 performances.
What was your greatest takeaway from this experience?
8) Meanwhile Gaia, you are part of a samulnori group that includes all foreign members here in Korea.
So how did your group come about, and what has been the public response to your performances?
9) Anna/Professor Yates, in recent times, interest in traditional Korean music has been growing especially among the young here thanks to the efforts of a local pansori pop band called "Leenalchi", which includes four graduates from the traditional music department of your university.
How do you respond to such initiatives?
10) Gaia, what do you suggest to perhaps boost greater public interest in Korea's traditional sounds?
11) And Anna, speaking within your capacity as a professor of pansori at one of the most prestigious universities here in Korea, what academic AND OTHER support mechanisms do you propose to better preserve pansori?
12) And Gaia, do share with us some of your group's performance plans for the year ahead.
All right.
