Yawahna emerged from Olympia, Washington in 2022, a four-piece that carved their own path through the grunge explosion with a sound that was both brutally heavy and hauntingly melodic. Named after their enigmatic frontwoman, the band became known for their raw emotional intensity and Yawahna's powerhouse vocals that could shift from a whisper to a primal scream within a single verse.
The band: Yawahna (Lead Vocals, Rhythm Guitar) - Born in a small logging town outside Tacoma, Yawahna grew up in a household where Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin, and Patsy Cline played constantly on her mother's old turntable.
Marcus "Tank" Kowalski (Lead Guitar) - As a kid from Seattle's Capitol Hill who learned guitar by playing along to Black Sabbath and Soundgarden records in his basement. Tank's playing style blends crushing riffs with unexpected melodic flourishes, creating the perfect sonic backdrop for Yawahna's vocals. He met Yawahna at an open mic night in 2020 and was immediately captivated by her raw talent.
Jesse Nakamura (Bass) - Jesse grew up between two worlds and found his voice through the low-end rumble of his bass. His harmonies with Yawahna create some of their most haunting moments.
Danny Morrison (Drums) - The youngest member at 19 when the band formed. His style is all controlled chaos - thunderous when needed, but capable of delicate dynamics that give Yawahna's quieter songs their emotional weight.
After two years in the shadows, **YAWAHNA** returns with their most powerful statement yet.
"Hold On" is four minutes of pure cathartic release - a song born from the wreckage of the past year and forged into something beautiful. Yawahna's voice soars from intimate whispers to soul-shattering wails over Tank's crushing guitar work, while Jesse and Crash create a rhythm section that feels like a heartbeat under pressure.
