What is Holy Saturday? The Meaning of Holy Saturday

Holy Saturday, or Easter Vigil, is the last day of Lent, the last day of Holy Week, and the last day of the Paschal Triduum, just before Easter. Holy Saturday is a day to commemorate the Passion and Death of Jesus Christ and prepare for His resurrection.

Holy Saturday is the day to remember Jesus' descent into the Ancestral Prison to comfort the saints. On Holy Saturday, everyone waits in silence for the risen Lord. That is why the Church calls Holy Saturday "Silent Day".

From a human point of view, this is considered the saddest day of the year, the air is tinged with mourning because Jesus died and was buried in the tomb. But as Jesus foretold: "After three days he will rise again" (cf. Mk 8:31; Mk 9:31; Mk 10:33-34). Therefore, the Church commemorates his death in the hope of resurrection. On Holy Saturday when Jesus died, the Church stayed at the Lord's tomb, meditating on His Passion and Death, meditating on His descent into Hell, awaiting His resurrection in prayer. and vegetarian.
