While noodling around today, I was reminded how much a change in drum sound can shift the way we play — and feel — time.
Tone length is one of those underrated factors that deeply affects groove and phrasing. It’s what fills (or leaves) the space between the notes.
Sometimes, it doesn’t take a new kit — just a few turns of a tuning key can open up a fresh perspective and spark inspiration.
For the gear-curious: yes, that’s the Quicksand Ride (now available), though I’m playing the R&D version here. And that snare? It’s the first version of my signature snare that I keep with this kit.
Wishing you lots of inspiration and a great day out there!
