At the MGK DAY event in Cleveland on August 11, 2024, Brandon Buckingham asked mgk, "recently obviously you blacked out some of your tattoos. is that kinda like a spiritual reawakening type of a thing or what does it mean to you to do that?"

mgk said, "I kinda keep the reasoning internal just cause I don't wanna, like, let too many people into my body energetically as far as what's going on with it. but, yeah, it definitely had to do with a cleanse. not covering cause I left mirrors to it. I'm evolutionary. so that's all I try to do as as an artist like my job is to entertain and inspire, and with that comes the consistency of keeping people excited something to make people have to think cause they've already been used to who I've been in their eyes for 10 years. it's like the phoenix. it's time for one thing to die and another thing to rise up like brand new life."
