The original version featured Joel Hill on guitar, Ray Johnson on Philicorda organ, Ray Pohlman on bass guitar, and Jesse Sailes on drums. Upon its release, the song quickly climbed to #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the U.S. and reached No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart. In 1972, it was re-released in Europe as an “oldie” and became a top-five hit again in both Britain and Germany. The song remains a classic rock and roll favorite!
