Range! Throughout the United States and southern Canada; individual species more restricted.
Food! Adult eats small insects. Naiad preys on small aquatic insects.

[Verse 3]
Life Cycle! Eggs are washed off singly into water by flying female, alone or attended by male. Naiads sprawl on bottom or on aquatic plants. They emerge on stiff plants close to water.

[Bridge]
Adults of both sexes are good fliers. Their common name refers to the way naiads climb up plant stems. Only a specialist can identify individual species, mostly on the basis of the adult male's genitalia or the spine pattern on naiads.
