David Lee Roth's announced his departure from Van Halen which happened on April Fools' Day. At the time, it was not immediately clear whether the announcement was a prank or not, but it was later confirmed to be true. Several factors led to Roth's departure from the band, including creative differences, personality clashes, and his desire to pursue a solo career. Roth went on to have a prosperous solo career, releasing several successful albums throughout the 1980s and early 1990s. Van Halen meanwhile, continued with a new lead singer, Sammy Hagar, and released several very successful albums of their own throughout Hagar's tenure. Roth eventually reunited with Van Halen for a tour in 2007-2008, and again in 2012.
